Sigh...is it the weekend yet????

Ok.....played with my site today a bit - not sure but it's ok for now. I thought I would get a layout done today and well, as luck would have it, I have caught a cold. And the way I feel, I think this is going to be one of those that just "kicks your butt" and you are down for a few days! I just slept today until it was time for Amy's speech this afternoon. And when I came home, slept some more....and then remembered I forgot to do the birthdays at TDC....boy I feel bad about that!!

Amy's speech: Amy's class was given an assignment at the beginning of the year to do a report on someone in history. Amy chose (with a tiny bit of help from me) to do her report on Anne Frank. I was a bit worried that the overall topic might be too "grown-up" for her and stressed out a bit when she didn't seem too interested in reading the book. After two grueling months, she finally finished the book and surprised me when she started searching the 'net for articles and sites devoted to Anne Frank. I was really proud of what she found that someone her age could actually understand. And although I am her mom and could be biased, I have to admit her final report was pretty good. It had what she needed without going too much into detail about concentrations camps and the Nazis. Perfect for a 4th grader.

Today the kids in her class all dressed up in character and gave a speech about their "special" person. It was wonderful to learn about people you had an inkling about - there was Sally Ride, Walt Disney, Patton, Susan B. Anthony, Cesar Chavez, Martha Washington and my daughter, Anne Frank. We dressed her up like a school girl and my mom sewed her a skit and made a small Star of David for her to wear on her sweater. But I think all the practicing we did kind of wore her out and when it was her turn to do her speech, she couldn't find her little index cards. I just happened to be sitting at the side and could see them all sitting inside her desk.....so I had to rescue her! Poor kid - really shook her up and she stumbled a bit through a speech she knew by heart. I felt so bad for her but gave her lots of praise for doing a great job. I got some great pictures of the kids and can't wait to do a layout about it. But boy am I glad that is all over and we can go on with our next project......Girl Scout Cookie Sales!!
